Product Log

Buteon updates

What Buteon does today, what recently shipped, and what is being explored next. Recorded the way Buteon records everything — with the limits stated.

Where things stand

Buteon is in controlled launch.

Access is opening in small waves rather than all at once. That is deliberate: the current focus is signal clarity, reliability, outcome memory, and feedback from the people already inside — not growth for its own sake.

While the launch stays controlled, buteon.ai serves as the public content and research hub. Start with the Intelligence Library, then see the method applied in Case Files and Research Notes. The product itself lives at app.buteon.ai for invited users. If something on this page is not available to you yet, that is the boundary working as intended.

How to read this page

Everything under The system today is live in the product or on the public site now, and each module states where its coverage ends. The release log records what was added or fixed. Roadmap items are directions being worked on, evaluated, or held — planned directions, not commitments, and not all features are available on every plan.

The system today

Four layers, four questions.

Buteon is built as a sequence of reads, not a feature list. Each layer answers one question, and each module below states its own limit.

LAYER 01 / FEED

What matters now?

The feed is deliberately quiet: across the names Buteon tracks, most filings never reach a card, and most cards carry no chip at all.

Intelligence Stream

Ranked feed of insider and ownership signals, each carrying a verdict, confidence and freshness read.

Coverage is partial and scoped to the names Buteon currently tracks — an absent ticker is a coverage limit, not a read. Free accounts see the stream on a roughly fifteen-minute delay.

Lenses

Filter the stream by verdict, cluster activity, freshness, priority, notable moves, watching or non-actionable.

Eight built-in lenses; custom saved views are kept separately.

Watchlist

Track tickers you care about and follow new signal activity on them.

Capacity is plan-limited: three tickers on Free, ten on Plus, twenty-five on Pro.

Watched Activity

A compact list of recent activity on the tickers you watch.

Covers the last seven days and shows at most five items. Watched tickers do not float to the top of the stream: relevance is only a tiebreaker after verdict, alert priority and freshness.

Signal Card Chips

At most one chip per card, and only these five: High Signal Tension, Conviction capped, Evidence mixed, Big-player confluence, Notable activity.

A chip marks where to look inside the signal; it is never the explanation and never a recommendation. Risk Gate does not appear on stream cards.

Signal Radar

Discovery grid over tracked tickers: fresh reads, measured history and actor activity.

Not a market-movers board, scanner or opportunity finder: everything shown is drawn from filed evidence. Free sees a preview limited to All and Fresh reads; the Watching, measured-history, actor-activity, no-fresh-read and watchlist filters require Plus or Pro.

Intelligence Inbox

In-app inbox of events that qualify under your alert preferences and watchlist.

In-app only — alerts are not delivered by email. Daily in-app caps are three on Free, twenty on Plus, forty on Pro. Alerts reflect current signal coverage, which is partial.

Alert Preferences

Set in-app sensitivity (the evidence threshold), direction and cluster scope, watchlist-only scope and digest cadence in Settings.

Email and digest toggles save but do not send: alerts arrive in the in-app inbox. The email digest is a Plus and Pro feature and is not active.

Weekly Brief

On-demand in-app brief on the week’s reads — selected by evidence quality, not performance — and watchlist activity.

Plus and Pro only. Nothing is emailed and no schedule exists. Historical context, not a recommendation.

LAYER 02 / DECISION

Should I care?

Open any signal and the reasoning is laid out — including what argues against it, what caps it, and where the evidence runs out.

Verdict Brief · The Read

One-screen read at the top of every signal: verdict, confidence, horizon, reasoning.

A verdict is a read on disclosed activity, never a recommendation to buy or sell. Verdict, confidence and freshness are categorical labels, and horizon names the window the read is scoped to — not a price forecast and not a holding period.

Evidence Stack

Counts the references behind a verdict: supporting, weakening, contradicting, context, forward.

Counts only — the five groups are never blended into a single number. Some signals show no structured evidence items at all.

Signal Tension

What runs counter to the verdict: evidence conflict, market non-confirmation, or a stale move.

Categorical only — the meter prints no number. When coverage is insufficient the panel says so instead of showing a level; when it is partial the level appears with the coverage limit stated beside it. It reads conflict; it does not forecast.

Why Not Green

Names the ceiling holding a bullish-leaning read below a stronger grade.

Appears only on bullish-leaning reads — bearish verdicts are out of scope. It explains a ceiling the engine already recorded and never promises the read will upgrade. On stream cards it appears as the chip “Conviction capped”.

Signal Signature

Structural tags — role, transaction type, isolation, size, freshness — characterizing the filing.

Descriptive tags, not a score or a ranking. Dimensions are omitted when the underlying data is unknown, so the tag set varies between signals.

Risk Gate

Flags what could weaken or cap a read, within available Form 4 and engine signals.

Coverage is partial by design: Form 4 filings plus existing engine signals only. Broader regulatory filings are outside its scope. “None detected” is limited scope, never an all-clear. Display-only — it does not change verdicts, scoring or alerts, and it is not a sell or short read. It appears only inside the signal dossier, not on stream cards or the company page.

Ticker Pulse

Recent market context around a signal: trend, backdrop, volume, short-window moves.

Informational only, never a direction claim. Market data loads only when you click “Load market context”, and it may be delayed, partial or unavailable — the panel says which. It contains no beta, no sector-relative measure and no volume multiple.

Actor Reliability

Categorical read on the acting insider: reliability band, provenance, same-company outcome history.

No numeric actor score and no standalone alignment percentage. Outcome history is same-company scope and shown as counts rather than rates, with sample size stated: historical context, not a performance claim. Identity matching is conservative and carries an explicit caveat when verified history is thin.

Field Guide

Public reference for how to read a card: verdict, confidence, freshness, and what Buteon will not claim.

Readable without an account.

LAYER 03 / CONTEXT

What is the broader intelligence picture?

Context is aggregated only as far as the filings support it, and never presented as complete. Each company page states which coverage tier it is showing.

Company Page

Ticker-level command page: current read, active signals, actor activity, market context, outcome history, audit.

You reach it by clicking any ticker; the page is titled with the ticker itself. Depth varies by coverage tier: actor activity, big-player context, outcome memory and historical analogs appear only for companies marked Monitored, while limited-coverage and directory-only companies show a reduced page. Free accounts see the newest read on a roughly fifteen-minute delay.

Signals on Price History

Click a marker on the price chart to open the read behind it, across selectable timeframes.

It plots signal markers on a price series and measures no statistical relationship between reads and price movement. It sits on the company page inside Ticker Pulse and appears only after you click “Load market context”; nothing loads before then. Unavailable for directory-only companies, and price history can be delayed or missing for smaller and non-US symbols. Informational context, not a forecast.

Actor Dossier

Same-company view of one actor on one ticker: read, pattern, filings, connected signals.

Same-company scope: every row is one actor on one ticker, never a cross-company identity. No numeric actor score, no ranking, no leaderboard. Cross-company and market-regime views are shown as locked, and identity carries a CIK reference and a caveat on how firmly it is established. It is drawn from the signals already loaded and shows at most two hundred rows — not a complete actor directory.

Actor Read

Categorical reliability read for this actor on this ticker, with its reasons.

Never a numeric score. It requires a signal where this actor is the primary insider among those loaded; otherwise it states that the read is not available rather than inventing one. The source may be inferred from role or profile rather than aggregated history.

Behavior Pattern

Filing structure: open-market versus routine, planned share, cluster participation and direction.

Same-company scope, read from a fixed history summary attached to the signal. Direction appears as raw counts, never as a ratio or percentage. It shows an empty card when no history summary is attached, and it describes past filing structure only — not future filings.

Connected Signals

Signals where this actor appears on this ticker; each row opens the signal.

Same-company scope, marked with a ticker-only chip. Drawn from the signals already loaded, capped at twelve rows, and empty when nothing matches. Not a cross-company signal history.

Audit & Source

Form 4 references, accession numbers, identity resolution and read provenance, collapsed by default.

On the company page the same panel is called “Audit & Transactions”. Contents are Form 4 filing references and identity and provenance details only — not a broader regulatory filing archive.

Outcome Memory

What Buteon flagged, and what unfolded after, at the T+5 and T+30 horizons.

Historical context — not a forecast, not a performance claim, not a track record. Counts are measured cases, never a rate. T+30 cohorts are developing and coverage is partial; tickers with no matured outcomes show an empty state. On the company page it appears only under Monitored coverage.

Historical Analogs

Past signals with the same structural shape, and what followed them.

Structural matches, distinct from the Outcome Engine’s measured cases. Matching is strict, so “no identical analogs” is a common result. Analog outcomes appear only after you ask for them and are raw T+30 price moves, not benchmark-adjusted. Samples are typically small, and analogs are not available for older signals. Historical context, not a prediction.

Power Actors

Disclosed Section 16 insider and ten-percent-owner activity, with per-ticker ownership dossiers.

Ranked by transaction materiality only — never by reliability or outcome, and never a buy list. The ten-percent-owner and beneficial lane is Section 16 only and its coverage there is thin; Schedule 13D and 13G large-holder disclosures are not covered. Confluence is ticker-level, not cross-company actor linkage. Free sees a preview; the insider lane, the ten-percent-owner and beneficial lane, confluence and watchlist all require Plus or Pro.

Institutional Register

Which managers disclosed holdings in selected names at quarter-end, from 13F filings.

A static register compiled by hand, covering fifteen tickers as of the quarter-end it was last compiled for. It changes only when it is compiled again; there is no refresh schedule. 13F is quarterly disclosed posture filed up to forty-five days late — stale context, not recent movement. No deltas, no ownership percentages, no rankings. Absence from the register is a coverage statement, not a read on a company.

LAYER 04 / RESEARCH

Does this hold up?

These tools let you stress a read and set it beside others. Where the sample is too thin to read anything into, they say so.

Signal Lab

Re-run a signal under stricter assumptions and watch verdict, confidence and constraints move.

Plus and Pro only — on Free the tab is visible but locked. Scenario output is exploratory and never revises the recorded verdict. Not a recommendation.

Compare

Put two signals side by side and see where their reads diverge.

Exactly two signals at a time. The card shortcut is hidden on narrow phones; the button inside a signal works on any screen size. Findings are exploratory research context, not a recommendation.

Research Workspace

Build and track theses on companies, linking signals as evidence over time.

Theses, their status labels and notes are authored by you — Buteon does not score, rank or evaluate them. Pinning a signal also adds the ticker to your watchlist, and watchlist size is plan-limited.

Outcome Engine

What unfolded after past reads: measured cases and developing signals.

Historical context only — not a prediction, not a track record, not a performance claim and not financial advice. T+30 windows are maturing, and no measured outcome is fed back into scoring. Free sees a capped measured-case preview without filters, Plus opens filtering, and Cohort Memory is a Pro-only tab.

Recent
  1. Product

    Plus and Pro are live

Upgrading opens a review step before checkout — the selected plan, what you will be billed and the accepted payment methods — after which your plan updates immediately. Cancellation, the grace period that follows and resuming a plan are handled from the billing portal.

  2. Product

    Invite-code admission and account deletion

Access opens with a code, confirmed by email; an invite link prefills it and carries you through sign-in. You can delete your account yourself: type the phrase shown in Settings, then confirm from a one-time emailed link. An active paid subscription blocks deletion until it is canceled.

  3. Product

    In-app alerts and their preferences

Alerts are on for new accounts and respect per-plan daily and per-ticker limits, grouping anything above the limit rather than dropping it. Your saved preferences stay as you set them.

  4. Product

    Choosing what Buteon measures

Settings added a product-analytics opt-out, and the privacy policy now describes exactly what is collected.

  5. Product

Faster opening, and phone detail panels

Panels you have not reached yet no longer hold up what you came to read. On phones, detail panels scroll as one, reach their last item, and keep the close button in reach when the phone is on its side; text fields are large enough that iOS no longer zooms in when you tap them.

  6. Product

When nothing clears the evidence bar

The stream now explains the threshold and points you to Signal Radar, your Watchlist and the Field Guide. Signal detail opens on the transaction facts, and the company page and the signal agree on the current read.

  7. Public site

    Form 4 Decoder

A free transaction-code lookup opened on buteon.ai, with dedicated pages for the codes P, S, A, M, F, G and J, cross-linked from the guides and Case Files.

  8. Public site

A library of guides, and public Case Files

Eight open, source-led guides on buteon.ai for reading insider activity, Form 4 mechanics, and uncertainty: how to read insider buying, Form 4 anatomy, transaction codes, Rule 10b5-1 plans, buying versus selling, clusters, misleading signals, and how an option exercise differs from an open-market purchase. Alongside them, public Case Files on an open-market purchase, a gift, a planned sale and a filing cluster. Each case file separates the filing facts, the read recorded at the time and later qualitative follow-up. Every article carries its primary SEC sources and a review date.

  9. Public site

    Two more Case Files published

An Under Armour open-market purchase and a Tesla option exercise joined the public collection, bringing it to six. Together the six span genuine buying, grants and gifts, planned sales, option mechanics and multi-filing clusters, without turning qualitative follow-up into a performance claim.

  10. Public site

Two research notes, sourced and labeled

A Research section opened on buteon.ai. One note separates what a filing disclosed about a large put position from what it never disclosed; another reviews AI adoption, infrastructure spending and labor projections, labeling every figure as survey, actual, estimate, forecast or projection. Both are evidence synthesis, not reads Buteon produced at the time.

  11. Public site

    How AI is used, stated

The What Is Buteon page now sets out where AI is and is not used: an optional, on-demand brief narrates a read Buteon has already produced. It never collects filings, sets verdicts or offers investment recommendations.

  12. Public site

    Corrections against the primary filings

After independent review, the number of sale transactions in one case file was restated against the source filing, gift-recipient wording was narrowed to what the filing names, and a faint control outline on the decoder was strengthened to an accessible level.

Prior
  1. Product

Search, and where you left off

Command-K jumps between modules, the tickers in your loaded stream and common actions, and a since-your-last-visit summary shows what changed, with one suggested next read, the investigation you left open and a short watchlist brief. The page you are on is reflected in the address bar, so a refresh or a shared link reopens exactly what you were reading. Overlays no longer swallow a navigation click while they are open.

  2. Product

    Signal Radar

A ticker-level discovery grid shipped with a Daily Hunt of names to investigate — never buy ideas — plus a coverage map and a ticker inspector. It reads from data Buteon already holds; market context loads only when you ask for it.

  3. Product

    Ownership context, ticker by ticker

Power Actors added an activity board of case-file cards, a context panel and a per-ticker ownership dossier, all drawn from data Buteon already holds. The Institutional Register shipped inside it: a quarter-end 13F register compiled by hand, with filing-verified rows and copy stating that it is not a coverage claim.

  4. Product

    Two scoring corrections

Award and grant transaction codes stopped counting as bullish directional evidence: forty-two reads were corrected, all landing on Watching or Non-actionable, and none introduced a new bearish read. Separately, the cluster definition used in scoring was corrected and applied forward only, so historical reads reflect what the engine believed at the time they were produced.

  5. Product

    What a card leads with

Signal cards, top reads, brief rows and analog rows open on the distinctive fact, so a read scans as ticker, verdict, what happened, what weakens it. A quiet section and an opt-in lens show the events where notability differs from conviction, with the engine verdict unchanged beside the notability label. Top reads open the company page at the top rather than partway down, and a bearish current read no longer appears in green with an approving check mark.

  6. Product

    Invite-only admission

The product requires an admitted account. Anyone not yet admitted sees a clear gate rather than partial or empty data.

  7. Product

    How much has been measured

The Outcome Engine now shows how many signals are eligible for measurement, how many have been measured at each horizon and when the next ones mature — labeled developing, and carrying no performance claim.

  8. Product

    Readability, motion and theme switching

Text contrast was raised across the app, chart and interface animation follow your reduced-motion setting, and the company, chart and compare pages switch cleanly between light and dark instead of splitting. The app opens behind a branded loading screen rather than a blank page, adds keyboard shortcuts, lets you undo removing a recent investigation, and offers a retry when a panel is empty or fails to load.

  9. Public site

Accessibility and stability on the public site

Legal text and form notes on buteon.ai were raised to accessible contrast, the mobile menu closes on outside tap and Escape, and the consent buttons were balanced so neither choice is pushed. The site settles faster on phones — nothing shifts under your thumb while the page loads and the opening flash is gone — and two display faults that could leave legal text hidden or misplaced were fixed, so legal content always appears.

Earlier
  1. Product

    The same read everywhere

A single intelligence layer drives the feed, signal detail, alerts, watchlist, compare and chart markers, carrying verdict, confidence and freshness with the labels Watching and Non-actionable.

  2. Product

Signal detail as a full dossier

A signal reads in one order: Verdict Brief, Evidence Stack, Why Not Green, Signal Tension, Signal Signature, Outcome Memory and Risk Gate.

  3. Product

    Company and actor context pages

The company page shipped as a ticker-level command page with a Ticker Pulse sparkline drawn from live price history, short-window tiles and a categorical actor reliability ring. Buteon publishes no company score. The Actor Dossier shipped with Actor Read, Behavior Pattern, Connected Signals and a collapsible Audit & Source section.

  4. Product

    Measured-case outcome history

Outcomes are measured against a market benchmark rather than raw price, answering what happened after comparable signals as historical context, and stating when a sample is insufficient.

  5. Product

    Tools for stressing a read

Scenario re-runs in Signal Lab, two-signal comparison, theses tracked in the Research Workspace and a price chart with clickable signal markers shipped together.

  6. Product

Cards and chips say only what the filing supports

Cards now carry a clear way to open the full analysis, and an execution-type chip appears only when the underlying fact is unambiguous. Verdict, confidence and freshness chips explain themselves on hover, and Audit & Source links to the source filings with a coverage caveat.

  7. Product

Today’s Top Reads and what happened after

A ranked daily selection landed on the stream, signal detail added a what-happened-after block, and an alerts preview appeared alongside them.

  8. Product

    Switching themes without breakage

A light theme landed alongside mobile layout work, so switching themes changes the whole app rather than breaking individual pages.

  9. Product

Onboarding brief and public Field Guide

A one-time mission brief covering read, remember and build shipped with an animated tour, alongside a Field Guide reachable from the sidebar, the profile and the public web.

What we are improving next

Direction, honestly labeled.

Three lanes: in progress, being evaluated, and held for later. Order within a lane is not a promise of sequence — and none of this is a delivery guarantee.

In progress
  • Library review cadence

Keeping the public guides current as filing forms, SEC rules and Buteon’s coverage change.

  • Alert and digest delivery

Sending alerts and the weekly digest beyond the in-app inbox.

Exploring
  • Outcome memory in more places

Extending what-happened-after context to more of the product as measured history matures.

Later
  • Edge Window

A research direction for framing how long a read stays timely, and stating plainly when it no longer is.

Roadmap items describe research lanes and planned directions under evaluation. Scope and timing change as the evidence model matures, and nothing here should be read as a commitment or as a claim about results.

How Buteon builds

The rules behind every release.

Evidence first

Structured evidence before opinion

Every read starts from public filings and measured facts, with provenance kept visible.

AI posture

AI-assisted, not AI-hyped

Where available, an optional AI brief narrates an existing structured read. It does not change the evidence, score, or verdict, and it does not pick stocks.

Uncertainty

Honest about uncertainty

Thin samples are called thin. Developing reads are called developing. Nothing is dressed up.

Boundary

Research tool, not advice

Buteon describes evidence. It does not tell anyone what to buy, sell, or hold.
